- Scorers
Under the CGL 2025/26 playing conditions and By-laws:
- Appointment: two scorers record all runs, wickets and overs. They're appointed by the Central Gauteng Lions Cricket Scorers Association. If none are available, each team supplies one scorer.
- Scoreboard: every club ground must have a scoreboard. The playing conditions require it to be updated at least at the end of every second over.
- Result card: you complete the result card with all the required information. The captains check it and the umpires sign it.
- Duration and overs: record each innings' net playing time in minutes and the overs bowled, with drinks and other allowances recorded separately. These figures decide over-rate penalties.
- Lightning: electronic devices aren't allowed on the field during play, so the CGL Lightning Policy relies on the scorers (with team managers or coaches) to watch the lightning detection app and warn the umpires when lightning is within 20 km.
- Agreements: the umpires must tell you about any agreed changes to hours of play or intervals.
Captains are also expected to keep checking the runs, wickets and overs you record during the match.
