- Scorers
The scorer is an official of the game, responsible for an accurate record of runs scored, outs, and the actions of batters, runners and fielders, using the Baseball Australia Official Score Book and the uniform symbols and colours endorsed by CABS (rule 9.00).
- Judgment calls, such as whether a batter's advance to first is a hit or an error, are agreed by both team scorers, who sit together in a neutral spot with a good view of the whole field, ideally away from spectators.
- Once both scorers agree the score at the end of the game, the designated scorer completes the official result card or report, as required by the State or Region governing body.
- The scorer may be asked to give game details to team officials, umpires or media, but must not get distracted while play is under way.
- The scorer must not make any decision that conflicts with the Official Playing Rules or an umpire's decision (rule 9.01(b)).
- The scorer must not alert the umpire or either team that a player is batting out of turn. The exception is when the teams change sides before three players are out: then the scorer must tell the umpire of the mistake immediately.
- The scorer is entitled to the respect and dignity of the office and should report inappropriate behaviour to league officials.
