Which penalties go on the scoreboard clock, and what do I record?
Rule- USA

- 14 and under

- Youth hockey
- 2025-29 USA Hockey rules
- 2026-27 season
- Scorekeepers
- Off-ice officials
Record every penalty on the official forms with:
- the penalized player's name and number
- the infraction
- the length of the penalty
- the game time it was assessed
Post on the scoreboard: penalties that affect on-ice strength. You're responsible for posting them correctly and checking that each player serves the right time.
Do not post on the clock:
- misconduct penalties
- coincidental minor or major penalties
Instead, alert those players and release them at the first stoppage of play after their time expires.
In the box:
- A penalized player can ask you how much time is left, and you must tell them.
- Only penalized players and off-ice officials may be in the penalty box. Play doesn't continue until anyone else is removed.
The PA announces each infraction twice, as reported by the Referee. When both teams are penalized on the same play, the visiting player's penalty is announced first.
