The Game Timekeeper:
- Signals the Referee and both teams for the start of the game and each period.
- Gives a three-minute warning before play resumes in each period, so teams and officials get back on time.
- Has the PA announce when there is one minute left in each period.
- Blows a whistle to end the period if the rink has no automatic horn or it fails.
- Notes the time of any clock or equipment malfunction and tells the Referee at the next normal stoppage.
Any dispute about time goes to the Referee, whose decision is final.
Before the game, the Referee will check that the required off-ice officials are in position and the timing and signal equipment works.
