Near-fall points equal the number of seconds the near-fall criteria are held (since 2024-25):
| Near-fall criteria held | Points |
|---|---|
| 2 seconds | 2 |
| 3 seconds | 3 |
| 4 seconds | 4 |
| Defensive wrestler is injured, indicates an injury or bleeds after a 4-point near fall is earned | 5 |
Recording tips:
- Only one near fall is scored per pinning situation (since 2025-26).
- The referee signals the near-fall points after the pinning situation ends, so wait for the final signal before writing the points in.
- Under the 2025-26 signal change, the three-point near-fall signal looks like an "OK" sign.
- A near fall can end a match by technical fall if it creates a 15-point lead.
