Under UKA Rule TR55 S1 and World Athletics Rule TR55:
- Follow the course as designed, and follow the normal rules of the road unless police, local authority staff or race officials tell you otherwise.
- Where a road is open to traffic during the race, stay on the left-hand side unless directed otherwise.
- The race referee can disqualify you for not following the correct course or not obeying a race official's instructions.
- If you leave the course and shorten the distance, you are disqualified. You may leave the course with an official's permission and supervision, as long as it doesn't shorten your distance.
Course distance: an advertised distance must be verified by a UKA-qualified, graded course measurer, measured along the shortest possible route. The course must not be shorter than advertised, nor more than 0.2% longer.
