How does team scoring work in cross country?

- All ages (U14 to Masters 35+)
- UKA Rules 2026

- Runners
Unless the race organiser specifies otherwise, UKA Rule G2 S9(5) uses lowest points wins:
- Each scoring runner scores points equal to their finishing position (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points and so on).
- The team with the lowest total from its counting runners wins.
- Non-scoring members of a team (runners beyond the number that count) still occupy positions, so they push up the scores of other teams, whether or not their own team finishes all its runners.
- Ties on points go to the team whose last scoring runner finished nearest to first place.
The number of runners who count for each team is set by the race or league conditions. To score for a club team you must be registered with England Athletics and run for the club you are eligible to represent.
