- Swimming: all rowers competing in an RA regatta must be able to swim 50 m and keep their head above water unassisted for three minutes. At the Australian Masters Rowing Championships it is the responsibility of the individual rower.
- Health: each competitor is responsible for their own health and fitness (Appendix 7). RA may direct a pre-competition health screening, and the rules recommend that rowers at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships undergo a health screening at least annually and before the event.
- Pre-existing conditions: any condition that may incapacitate a rower during competition or training must be notified to the Event Medical Officer before racing.
- Uniform: at the Australian Masters Rowing Championships, crew members race in the racing uniform of their club, including composite crews, which are not required to wear identical uniforms.
