At a one-day event, protests have tight time limits:
- Foul riding or another irregularity during the race: tell the Chief Referee at the event within 15 minutes of your finish time.
- The final results (placings): tell the Chief Judge at the event within 15 minutes of the results being announced. If you protest after the awards ceremony, you give up any right to awards.
- After awards: once results are final on site and awards are handed out, you can still send a protest about the order of finish to USA Cycling, which considers it at its discretion. It must reach them within 30 days of the results being posted on the USA Cycling website.
- Other protests must be in writing, signed, and come with a deposit set by USA Cycling's Schedule of Fees. The Chief Referee or a jury of officials decides them.
Protests about whether a rider or bike is eligible should be lodged with the Chief Referee before the race.
