Only on the track. USA Cycling has no junior gear limits for road, cyclocross or mountain bike races.
On the track, the maximum gear is set by your racing age and applies to every track event:
| Racing age | Maximum roll-out |
|---|---|
| 9-12 | 6.05 m |
| 13-14 | 6.45 m |
| 15-16 | 6.93 m |
| 17-18 | Unrestricted |
- Gears are checked with the roll-out method: officials measure how far the bike travels for one full turn of the pedals. Roll-out depends on your chainring, cog and tire size, so check your actual setup rather than relying on a gear ratio chart.
- If you race up in an older age group's race, you can use that race's gear limit, if it has one.
