Five changes, mostly about the clock:
- Rule 5-9-5 (new): in the last 59.9 seconds of each quarter and overtime, at least 0.3 seconds must come off the game clock when a player legally touches the ball inbounds on a throw-in. It doesn't apply if the clock can't display tenths of a second.
- Rule 5-10-2 Note (new): officials may use a silent count to correct a timing error when the clock was not started or stopped properly.
- Rule 8-6-4 (new): technical fouls by opposing teams are treated as happening at approximately the same time, in a single dead-ball period. The penalties offset, and play resumes at the point of interruption.
- Rule 9-2 Penalty (clarified): when a throw-in violation occurs, the violation is located at the original throw-in spot. If that isn't a designated spot, the ensuing throw-in moves to a designated spot.
- Rule 6-4-4g (deleted): no longer needed after last season's changes to faking-being-fouled procedures.
The 2025-26 changes (defensive-only goaltending, the backboard rule, backboard slaps as basket interference, bench personnel during timeouts) all still apply.
