- Inspect the field of play, line markings and markers before the match to ensure the safety of all participants.
- Markers on the junction of the sideline and try line are in the field of play; all other markers or cones are out of the field. Line markings should be 4 cm wide and no less than 2.5 cm.
- The ball must be oval, inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure, and of a shape, colour and size approved by FIT or the national body. Pause the match immediately if the ball stops complying so it can be replaced or fixed. The ball must not be hidden under player attire.
- Players must be in matching team uniforms with a unique number at least 16 cm high on the back (no more than two digits), safe footwear (no screw-in studs), and no dangerous jewellery, which must be taped to your satisfaction if it cannot be removed. Fingernails must not be long or sharp.
- Supervise the coin toss with the captains. The winner chooses first-half direction, the interchange areas for the whole match and who starts with possession.
- Confirm each team has at least four players and no more than six on the field (14 in the squad), and in mixed competitions no more than three males and at least one male and one female on the field.
