- Referees
Under World Aquatics rules (Part Six, Article 3.7):
At the start of the match and each period
- One referee on each side of the pool, on the 6 m line to their right as they face the field of play.
- The referee listed first in the programme starts on the same side as the officials' table.
- If there's no ball-release device, one referee releases the ball at halfway and then takes up position.
During play
- Stay on the same side you started the period on, but move freely along that side to get the best view.
- At the start of the second and fourth periods (when teams don't change ends), the referees swap sides and 6 m lines.
- During stoppages and intervals, referees may move anywhere in the venue.
With only one referee (allowed at non-World Aquatics events with two assistant referees), the referee works from the officials' table side, with the assistant referees on the opposite side.
