What are the goalkeeper rules?

• Under 6 and 7: there are no goalkeepers. The Game Leader discourages children from permanently standing in front of the goal.
• Under 8 to 11: the goalkeeper may handle the ball anywhere in the penalty area. To restart after a save or gathering the ball, they must throw or roll it from their hands, or play it from the ground with their feet, within 6 seconds. They may not kick or drop kick the ball directly from their hands. Opponents stay at least 10 metres outside the penalty area until the ball is in play (when it leaves the area, or, at Under 10-11, when the goalkeeper places it on the ground).
• An indirect free kick is awarded if the goalkeeper handles the ball after a teammate deliberately kicked it to them.
