At the lanes, bowl a provisional ball. If the two captains can't agree on a foul, pinfall or dead ball call:
| Disputed ball | What to do |
|---|---|
| First ball of a frame (or 2nd ball of the 10th after a strike), foul | Finish the frame, then bowl one provisional ball at a full rack |
| Same, illegal pinfall | Finish the frame, then one provisional ball at the setup that would have stood |
| Same, dead ball | Finish the frame, then bowl a full provisional frame |
| Spare attempt or 3rd ball of the 10th, foul or illegal pinfall | No provisional needed |
| Spare attempt or 3rd ball of the 10th, dead ball | One provisional ball at the same setup |
Both scores are recorded and the league board decides.
Filing a protest: put it in writing to a league officer:
- within 15 days of the series, or
- within 72 hours for games in the final two weeks of the schedule, at the end of a split-season segment, or in roll-offs/playoffs.
A verbal protest isn't enough; unless it's confirmed in writing, the result stands.
Appealing the board's decision: file in writing with the local association or USBC Headquarters within 15 days of being notified, or within 72 hours if you're notified in the final two weeks, at the end of a segment, after the schedule ends, or after roll-offs/playoffs. Prizes for the positions involved are held until it's resolved.
