USA Ultimate requires its members to follow the CDC HEADS UP Concussion Action Plan whenever a concussion is suspected:
- Remove the athlete from play.
- Make sure they are evaluated by a health care professional experienced in evaluating concussion. Teammates and coaches should not try to judge how serious it is.
- Inform the athlete's parents or guardians where applicable.
- Keep the athlete out for the rest of that day. They return to play only with permission from a health care professional experienced in evaluating concussion.
Signs to watch for after a bump, blow or jolt to the head or body include headache or "pressure", nausea, dizziness or balance problems, blurry or double vision, sensitivity to light or noise, confusion, feeling foggy, memory problems, appearing dazed, or any loss of consciousness.
If an injury was not caused by contact with another player, your team must either sub you out or announce that it is using a team timeout (rule 7.C.4).
