After catching, you must stop as quickly as possible and set a pivot. It's a travel (section 18) if you:
- don't stop as quickly as possible, or speed up or change direction before setting a pivot;
- lift or move your pivot before releasing the throw;
- fail to touch the disc to the ground when required (for example, after carrying it in from out-of-bounds);
- advance a disc that is rolling, sliding or sitting on the ground;
- deliberately bobble or tip the disc to yourself to move it forward. Tipping to a teammate is legal.
Throwing on the run: if you catch while running or jumping, you may throw without stopping as long as you don't speed up or change direction and you release within three more ground contacts, all in-bounds and outside the end zone you're attacking.
What happens:
- Called, no throw yet: play doesn't stop. The marker points to the spot, you go back and touch the disc to the ground, and the stall count pauses until you set your pivot there.
- Called and you throw anyway: an incomplete pass stands as a turnover; a completed pass comes back to you at the travel spot, restarting with a check.
- To contest, call "violation"; after the check the count resumes at the count reached plus one, or 6 if over 5.
Defenders should let tiny pivot drags (under about two inches) go.
