Marking violations are infractions by the marker (or another defender near the thrower). Only the thrower can call them, and must call the specific name. The six are:
| Call | What it means |
|---|---|
| Fast count | Count started without "stalling", numbers less than one second apart, or a number skipped |
| Double team | A second defender within 10 feet of your pivot who isn't also within 10 feet of and guarding another offensive player (just running through doesn't count) |
| Disc space | Any part of the marker within one disc diameter of your torso, or a line between two points on the marker touching you or within a disc diameter of your torso or pivot |
| Straddle | Line between the marker's feet within one disc diameter of your pivot |
| Wrapping | Line between the marker's hands within one disc diameter of your torso or pivot |
| Vision blocking | Marker deliberately blocks your vision |
Play doesn't stop. The marker must fix the problem, then resumes the count at the last number said minus one (for example "...three, fast count, ...two, three..."). If the marker repeats the violation in the same count, you can call "violation" instead, which stops play. It isn't a violation if your own movement caused it.
The marker can contest your call by calling "violation", which is treated as an offensive violation call. If a fast count leaves you no reasonable chance to call it before "ten", a stall is treated as contested.
