Generally five. Under the 2027 College Eligibility Guidelines, you're not eligible if more than five years have passed between your first Start Date Event and June 1 of the current year.
Example from the guidelines: if your first Start Date Event was between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023, you're eligible for the 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 college seasons.
Start Date Events (for events on or after June 1, 2021) include:
- all USA Ultimate Championship Series-level events;
- club regular season events with a TCT-participating team;
- any USA Ultimate-sanctioned college regular season or postseason event;
- select-team WFDF World Championships in the under-24 age group and above;
- equivalent events sanctioned by another country's governing body.
What doesn't start your clock:
- events you played in while in school before June 1 of your high school graduation year, including high school state championships;
- youth club events, for players no longer high school eligible, unless that team played in the club postseason as a club division team.
You stop being high school eligible if you turn 20 before June 1 of the school year. Military service that prevented you from playing can earn a one-season extension per season (apply with your DD Form 214). Check your participation status in your USA Ultimate account; email coll_elig_comm@usaultimate.org with your name and USAU ID if it looks wrong.
