For the 2027 college regular season and College Series (Conferences, Regionals and Nationals), you must meet both academic and participation (five-season) eligibility. The academic rules:
- Half-time status: your registrar must count you as at least a half-time student (two full-time classes or equivalent, as your registrar defines it). Graduate students doing research, teaching or a thesis toward a degree qualify.
- Degree-seeking: you must be accepted and enrolled in a regular degree program at the school you play for. Certificate-only programs don't count unless granted an exception.
- When it applies: throughout the entire spring semester (semester schools), or two of three quarters (any combination of fall, winter and spring). You must be in at least one course required for graduation in the last term used.
- Continuing education or extension courses don't count unless approved through USA Ultimate's Coursework Validation process.
- Second bachelor's or associate's degree: you must be full time (unless the light load exception applies).
Exceptions:
- Light load: the half-time rule is waived if you're taking at least the minimum load needed to graduate (at least one class) and you're on track to graduate at the end of winter or spring this academic year. You can't use this and then play a later College Series before that degree.
- Non-degree (grad school accepted) and certificate/post-bacc exceptions exist, with documentation sent to coll_elig_comm@usaultimate.org. Foreign exchange students can't use any academic exception.
Your school registrar, not USA Ultimate, decides your enrollment status. Unclear cases go to coll_elig_comm@usaultimate.org by March 1 of the season.
