This FAQ follows the World Curling rules that Curling Canada adopted for the 2026-27 season: the World Curling Rules of Curling and Rules of Competition dated 1 September 2026 (https://worldcurling.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Rules-of-Curling-2026.pdf). The Rules of Curling apply to any game or competition to which they are made applicable by the curling organisation having jurisdiction. Some Rules of Competition quoted here (for example on brush heads and team time-outs) are written for World Curling competitions.
The Spirit of Curling: curling is a game of skill and tradition. Curlers play to win but never to humble opponents, never try to distract opponents or stop them playing their best, and would rather lose than win unfairly. Curlers never knowingly break a rule or disrespect a tradition, and if they find a breach was made inadvertently they are the first to divulge it. The spirit of curling demands good sportsmanship, kindly feeling and honourable conduct, and should influence how the rules are interpreted and applied.
Review: World Curling reviews the rules annually, and member associations may submit suggestions by 31 December.
