Wheelchair Rugby Canada's start-playing page says you may be eligible if you are over 13 (the sport has no junior program) and have either:
- a spinal cord injury (neurological disability) affecting at least three limbs, or
- another condition, such as cerebral palsy, polio, muscular dystrophy or amputation, that affects all four limbs (non-neurological disability).
You must be able to propel a manual wheelchair with your arms. Men and women play on the same teams.
For classification, you need a verifiable, permanent impairment from an underlying health condition. Six physical impairment types are eligible: impaired muscle power, limb deficiency, impaired passive range of movement, hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis. You must also meet the minimum impairment criteria; athletes who do not are classed Not Eligible (NE).
