What happens if my wheelchair breaks or I fall out during a game?

Breakdown (Art. 3.1, Note 1): if your wheelchair stops working or becomes unsafe, the referee stops the game at an appropriate moment so your team can repair it. If the repair can't be finished within 50 seconds of the game being stopped, you must be substituted.

Falling (Art. 3.1, Note 2): a player can fall out of the wheelchair without any foul having happened. The rules tell referees to pay careful attention to protecting the fallen player when deciding when to stop play.

Illegal wheelchair: a wheelchair that breaks the specification rules is banned from the game. A head coach can ask the crew chief to check an opponent's chair:

• if the chair is illegal, that player is disqualified;
• if it is legal, the head coach who asked is charged with a technical foul ('C').
