- Players
- Two players only (Rule 4.1): a beach team is made up of exactly two players, and only the two players on the score sheet may take part in the match. There are no substitutions (Rule 15.2.2), and both players must always be in play.
- Coaching: at FIVB, World and Official competitions, players may not receive external assistance or coaching during a match. Specific regulations for age-group competitions and some Continental Cup phases are the exception.
- Captain (Rule 5 and 15.3): one player is the team captain, marked on the score sheet. The captain is responsible for team conduct and discipline, and is the only one who can request time-outs.
- Team area (Rule 4.2): each team's area, with two chairs, must be 5 m from the sideline and no closer than 3 m to the scorer's table.
