Beach (FIVB Official Beach Volleyball Rules 2025-2028):
- Rally scoring, with a team scoring a point whenever it wins a rally.
- A set is won at 21 points with a minimum two-point lead (play on from 20-20 until a two-point lead).
- The match is won by the first team to win two sets.
- At 1-1 the deciding third set is played to 15 points with a minimum two-point lead.
- Teams switch courts after every 7 points in sets 1 and 2, and after every 5 points in set 3, and must change without delay.
- Intervals between sets last one minute, with one time-out per team per set and no substitutions.
Indoor (Volleyball Canada 2026-27 rulebook), for comparison:
- A set is won at 25 points with a two-point lead.
- Matches are best 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 sets, with a deciding set to 15 points (two-point lead).
- Each team may request two time-outs per set (60 seconds each in Volleyball Canada competitions) and make six substitutions.
