Check in at the tournament desk before your scheduled match time. You haven't "arrived" until you've checked in at the designated place, properly dressed, equipped and ready to play; in doubles, both partners must be there (USTA Reg. IV.A.2; Table 16).
Lateness penalties for best-of-three matches, including those with a match tiebreak instead of a third set (Table 16):
| Late by | Penalty |
|---|---|
| 5 minutes or less | Loss of toss + 1 game |
| 5:01 to 10 minutes | Loss of toss + 2 games |
| 10:01 to 15 minutes | Loss of toss + 3 games |
| More than 15 minutes | Default |
Short-set and short pro-set formats have smaller penalties (maximum 2 games). Being late back after a 10-minute rest period is a game penalty for up to 5 minutes, and a default after that. A default for late arrival adds 1 suspension point; a no-show default adds 5 (Table 17).
