Minimum holes (Rule 2.2):
- 9-hole score: all 9 holes must be played.
- 18-hole score: at least 10 holes must be played.
- Fewer than 9 holes: not acceptable.
Holes not played (Rule 3.2): if you stopped for a valid reason, such as darkness, weather that stops play, injury or illness, or a match ending early, your score is still acceptable and the system uses your expected score for the missing holes. A hole you started counts as played.
Invalid reasons make the score unacceptable and may lead the Handicap Committee to post a penalty score: for example, skipping a hole you usually play badly, quitting to avoid posting a high (or low) score, or stopping for weather that doesn't actually prevent play.
