Girls' rugby in Scotland uses 2-year age bands: U12, U14, U16 and U18. You can move up to the next band once you reach its lower qualifying age on the day of the match.
For 2026/27:
| Band | Born on or after | And on match day you're at least |
|---|---|---|
| U12 | 1 September 2014 | 10 |
| U14 | 1 September 2012 | 12 |
| U16 | 1 September 2010 | 14 |
| U18 | 1 September 2008 | 16 |
- Girls of primary school age usually play mixed rugby but can play U12 girls' rugby where it's available, as long as they meet the U12 criteria.
- When you turn 18 you can choose to play adult rugby, stay in U18 rugby for the rest of the season, or both.
- Playing outside your band (for example, a 15-year-old in U18) needs dispensation from Scottish Rugby.
