Scottish Rugby's rule is "If in doubt, sit them out."
- There is no head injury assessment (HIA) in the community game. Anyone with a suspected concussion must be removed straight away and must not return that day, whether it's a match or training.
- Team-mates, coaches, referees, managers and parents who suspect a concussion must do their best to get the player off the pitch safely.
- Tell your coach, team management and family, even if your symptoms go away quickly.
- Get advice within 24 hours from an on-site healthcare professional or from NHS 24 on 111.
- Your club or school must record the concussion on SCRUMS, which starts your Graduated Return to Activity and Sport (GRAS) protocol.
Go to hospital urgently if, for example, you lose consciousness, keep getting drowsier, become more confused or irritable, or have weakness, tingling or burning in your arms or legs. If a neck injury is suspected, only healthcare professionals with spinal care training should move you.
