- Governing structure: the SAFA Statutes (as amended by the SAFA Congress on 23 May 2026) list the South African Indoor Football Association (FUTSAL) as one of SAFA's associate members, alongside bodies such as the SA Football Coaches Association and University Sport South Africa (Football).
- Laws: futsal is played under the FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game. The current edition is 2025-26, effective from 5 September 2025. Futsal has its own laws, separate from the IFAB Laws of the Game used for 11-a-side football.
- Competition rules may set some details the Futsal Laws leave open, such as how many substitutes may be named (up to nine may be used in official competitions), shirt numbering, and whether the match periods are shortened.
- Futsal is also part of SAFA's grassroots programme for children aged 6 to 12, which recommends a size 3 futsal ball for under-12s.
