- The game is played over two 25-minute periods with a 5-minute interval between halves. League governing bodies may set rules on whether time off for injury is played, and on extra time to decide a drawn match (for finals, where played, in International League Tag matches only).
- Scoring: a try is worth 4 points, a successful conversion or penalty goal is worth 2 points, and a drop goal during play is worth 1 point. A conversion attempt is a place kick in line with where the try was scored.
- The team with more points wins. If both teams score equally, or neither scores, the game is drawn.
- The field of play is 100 metres long and 68 metres wide, with an in-goal area normally 8 metres deep.
- International League Tag Laws apply to players aged 13 and above, and the Laws of the International Game of Rugby League apply subject to the modifications in the League Tag laws.
