Can I strip or punch the ball out of a runner's hands?

No. Under Rule 9-7-4 (revised for 2026-27), a ball in a player's possession can't be batted, stripped, or attempted to be stripped by punching, striking or grabbing the ball, by a player of either team.

Go for the flag, not the ball.
