Field lacrosse is an outdoor game played with a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick. Two teams of ten players try to score by sending the ball into the opponent's goal while stopping the other team from gaining the ball and scoring. The hand may not touch the ball, except by a goalkeeper within their goal crease. The men's game allows body-checking, while the women's game does not allow checking.
Lacrosse Canada's field lacrosse page lists the World Lacrosse Men's Field Lacrosse Rulebook (2025-2027, version 1.0, in effect from January 1, 2025) as the men's rules, along with the World Lacrosse Men's Field Officiating Manual and the Lacrosse Canada Men's Field Minor Officials Guide. World Lacrosse allows each national governing body to set its own implementation date and to vary the men's rules.
