A score counts if the round was played:
- in an authorised format (below), over at least the minimum holes (9 for a 9-hole score, 10 for an 18-hole score),
- with at least one other person, who can act as your marker,
- by the Rules of Golf,
- on a course with a current Course Rating and Slope Rating (issued in South Africa by GolfRSA), kept at its normal length and difficulty, and
- during the course's active season.
Authorised formats (competition or social play, 9 or 18 holes):
- Individual stroke play, including Stableford, Par/Bogey and Maximum Score
- Four-ball stroke play, including Stableford, Par/Bogey and Maximum Score
- Individual match play
- Four-ball match play
Formats not on this list, such as foursomes, greensomes and scrambles, don't count.
In social play, a score generally doesn't count if you breach a Rule and don't apply the correct penalty, or deliberately ignore a Rule.
