What is the penalty for slow play?

You must not unreasonably delay play, either during a hole or between holes. The penalties escalate:

• First breach: one penalty stroke.
• Second breach: the general penalty (two strokes in stroke play).
• Third breach: disqualification.

You should also play at a prompt pace. The Rules recommend making a stroke within about 40 seconds of when you are able to play, and usually faster. The Committee should adopt a Pace of Play Policy. (Rule 5.6)
