Which competitions do the national NPL roster rules cover?

The NPL is the national men's second tier club competition, staged in each member federation in Australia. Football Australia's NPL Player Roster Principles apply to the first team of each NPL club (the senior team playing the NPL fixture), and Schedule 1 of the National Registration, Status and Transfer Regulations applies only to the top-tier men's competition in each member federation. It does not apply at all to Football Northern Territory.

A club's NPL roster must comply with the regulations, the roster principles and the requirements of the relevant competition rules (if any) of its member federation. The national rules in this FAQ are the Football Australia NPL Player Roster Principles 2026 (February 2026) and the National Registration, Status and Transfer Regulations dated 22 September 2026.
