How do I get a Handicap Index in England?
Rule- England

- All ages
Step 1: join a golf club or iGolf. Your Handicap Index is managed by a Handicap Committee, either at your club or through England Golf's iGolf scheme for golfers without a club membership.
Step 2: submit 54 holes of scores. Play and submit acceptable scores totalling 54 holes, made up of 18-hole rounds, complete 9-hole rounds or a mix. For each round:
- pre-register it before you start (this applies to initial-handicap rounds too)
- play under the Rules of Golf with at least one other person acting as your marker
- each hole is capped at par + 5 for handicap purposes until you have a Handicap Index.
Your Handicap Index is issued the day after your 54th hole is submitted, or soon after.
Other points:
- The maximum Handicap Index is 54.0. If your first calculation comes out higher, you're given 54.0.
- Scores from any individual stroke play format (medal, Stableford, par/bogey) are acceptable, in competitions or general play.
- Your Handicap Index isn't the number of strokes you get on the course. That's your Course Handicap, which depends on the tees you play.
