Juniors can play in CGL adult matches, with these safeguards from the CGL By-laws and playing conditions (age groups are based on the player's age at midnight on 31 August before the season):
- Tell the umpires: captains must tell the umpires and the opposing captain the age group of every player who is U19 or younger, including a junior coming on as a substitute fielder.
- Parental consent: U13 and younger need written consent from a parent or guardian. A parent, guardian or other responsible adult should be present.
- Helmets: any player under 18 must wear a helmet with a faceguard when batting, keeping wicket standing up, or acting as a runner. Parental consent to go without a helmet is not accepted.
- Fielding distances (hard ball): U15 and younger may not field closer than 7.3 m (8 yards) from the middle stump, and U13 and younger not closer than 10 m (11 yards), except behind the wicket on the off side, until the batter has played at the ball. These apply even with a helmet, and the umpire must stop play and move the fielder back.
- Close fielding: U16 and U18 players under 18 must wear a helmet (and boys a box) within 5.5 m (6 yards) of the bat, except behind the wicket on the off side.
- Bowling: players aged 16 or under may bowl spells of at most 5 overs, and at most 15 overs in a day. After a spell they must rest for as many overs as they bowled.
