Classification structures competition so athletes compete on fair terms. It determines eligibility to compete and groups athletes by visual ability into classes.
IBSA describes a two-step process:
- Eligibility testing confirms you have an eligible impairment, meaning your impairment affects your ability to play goalball at a minimum level.
- Sport class assignment: classifiers assign a sport class (B1, B2 or B3) based on the test results and medical evidence you provide.
You must be classified before competing in IBSA-sanctioned Continental or World Championships.
