A traditional tackle is prohibited. Instead a player "tackles" by touching the player in possession with one or two hands, and the umpire calls "tackle". Grabbing an opposition player or their wheelchair is a free kick.
Time to dispose of the ball:
- If you play on after receiving the ball by rolling away from an opponent and are immediately touched, you have one second to dispose of it before the umpire calls prior opportunity.
- If you had no prior opportunity when touched, you must dispose of the ball within three seconds before holding the ball is awarded.
- If you are touched as you take possession but break away into open space, you have one second before holding the ball is called.
- Holding the ball is also awarded against any player who takes the ball out of a ruck contest.
