USA Water Polo-sanctioned 14U games use the USA Water Polo Rules 2026-2027, which are based on the World Aquatics rules. National championships (National Junior Olympics, its zone qualifiers and Champions Cup) also follow USA Water Polo's Conduct of Championships, which sets 14U-specific details such as period length, ball size and eligibility.
14U plays the full rules. USA Water Polo's modified rules for younger players (no direct shot from a free throw outside 6 meters, no set exclusion time, smaller goals, goalkeeper can't cross half pool) apply only to 12U and 10U.
Key 14U differences from adult play come from the Conduct of Championships: a size 4 ball for boys and girls and 6-minute periods at Junior Olympics finals and Champions Cup.
