Little League's lightning safety guidelines say to stop play and get everyone to safety when:
- lightning is seen,
- thunder is heard, or
- the time between a flash and its thunder is 30 seconds or less (the storm is about 6 miles away or closer).
Dugouts, rain shelters, sheds and bleachers are not safe. Go to a substantial building with wiring and plumbing, or a hard-topped vehicle with the windows up.
Wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder or lightning before returning to the field. Once a game has started, the umpires decide whether weather or field conditions stop it.
