WA junior football follows the school year, so children play with their schoolmates. Birth date ranges for 2026:
| Year | Born |
|---|---|
| Year 3 | 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018 |
| Year 4 | 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2017 |
| Year 5 | 1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016 |
| Year 6 | 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015 |
Years 3 to 6 are the "Modified" competitions. Younger children (Pre-Primary to Year 2) play Auskick or Superkick and are not eligible for junior competitions.
Registration:
- Register online through PlayHQ. A player cannot take part in any official match until registration is approved and shows as "active".
- Proof of age is required for players new to junior football; you must not falsify a name or date of birth.
- A player may hold only one registration.
- Junior players cannot be paid cash or cheques to play; vouchers from a sponsor or canteen are the preferred incentive.
- Moving to a different club follows the AFL National Player Transfer Regulations: transfers are open 1-30 November and 1 February to 30 June, and permits stay open all season.
