Which match day jobs do parents have to fill?
Rule- Western Australia
- WA Football
- Junior football
- Years 3-6
- Modified competitions
- AFL Laws of the Game
- 2026
- Parents
Each team must supply these people for every match (2026 handbook):
- Coach: accredited Foundation Coach via CoachAFL
- Team Manager: main contact for umpires and officials
- First Aid / Medical Officer: at least a First Aider (HLTAID011) and the AFL online First Aid and Concussion Management module
- Goal umpire: should be an adult and not an injured or rostered-off player of that team
- Interchange Steward: tracks game time on the Rookie Me Play app
- Runner (optional, one per team, 18 or over)
- The home team also supplies a timekeeper, who can double as the independent scorer, and the match ball
If the League cannot appoint a field umpire, the coaches or team officials can agree on an adult (18 or over, named on match documents, compliant with Working With Children laws) to umpire. Any person umpiring, including a parent umpire, must complete the online registration and approved education module first.
A Working With Children Check is required where someone has an agreement to work, paid or volunteer, in child-related work with no exemption (in sport, usually Category 12 of the Working with Children (Screening) Act 2004).
