What age categories are used, and how is my child's set?

Volleyball Canada's 2026-27 Indoor Nationals age categories (updated August 26, 2026) give each category a 16-month birth window. For 14U, a player is eligible if born from September to December 2012, or any time in 2013. The other categories, for reference:
- 15U: September to December 2011, or 2012
- 16U: September to December 2010, or 2011
- 17U: September to December 2009, or 2010
- 18U: September to December 2008, or 2009 (with special rules for a few older athletes and post-secondary athletes)
A team's age category is the one it declares with its provincial or territorial association (PTA) at the start of the season. A PTA may set different age category requirements, so the team must confirm eligibility with both its PTA and Volleyball Canada.
