How is my child's age group decided for a meet?

Under USA Swimming rules (Article 205.2):
- Age is based on your child's date of birth (not time of birth).
- Their age on the first day of the meet is their age for the whole meet, even if they have a birthday partway through.
- They swim in the age group events for that age, unless the meet combines age groups.
If a meet is postponed:
- Before it starts: if it's moved 14 days or less, age is still set by the original first day. If it's moved more than 14 days, age is set by the new first day.
- After it has started: if it resumes within 14 days, ages don't change.
Note: these rules apply to USA Swimming sanctioned and approved meets. Summer and recreation leagues that aren't run under USA Swimming may use their own age cut-off date.
