From the 2026 USA Lacrosse boys youth rules:
- Chinstrap: it must be worn on the chin, not under it, and fastened at all of the helmet's manufactured attachment points. It must be secure enough that the helmet can't come off without unfastening the strap.
- Improper equipment: using illegal equipment, or not wearing mandatory equipment properly, is a non-releasable personal foul.
- Losing a helmet: a player whose helmet comes off commits an illegal procedure (technical foul), unless it came off because an opponent made direct contact with his head.
- Mouthpiece: not wearing one is an illegal procedure technical foul, unless it came out during play.
- Eye black: must be a single solid stroke with no words, numbers or logos, and can't extend outside the eye socket or below the cheekbone. Breaking this rule is a 1-minute non-releasable illegal equipment foul.
Before the game, each head coach certifies to the officials that every player is wearing all required equipment, and wearing it properly.
