Required by USA Hockey rules at 10U:
- HECC-certified helmet, unaltered, with the chin strap fastened. The HECC sticker has an expiration date, and an expired helmet is no longer legal.
- HECC-certified full facemask, including any chin cup that comes with it.
- HECC-certified neck laceration protector covering as much of the neck as possible. BNQ-certified neck guards are also accepted through the 2026-27 season.
- Hockey skates (no figure or speed skates).
Players must keep the helmet and facemask on while on the team bench or in the penalty box, too.
Each player is responsible for wearing gloves, shin pads, shoulder pads, elbow pads, padded hockey pants (or hip pads), a protective cup and tendon pads. It's recommended that all of it be made for ice hockey.
Also recommended: a mouthguard (required from 12U) and cut-resistant socks, sleeves or undergarments.
Other rules:
- Everything except gloves, pants, helmet/facemask and goalie leg pads must be worn under the uniform.
- No jewelry unless it's completely covered by equipment or taped down.
- A player whose equipment doesn't comply can't play until it's fixed.
Goalies must also wear a helmet, full facemask and certified neck guard.
