Touch Football Australia's National Junior Development Framework says there is no set rule for age divisions in a junior competition, so they vary from affiliate to affiliate. Ages are taken as at 31 December of that year.
It gives this guide to matching age divisions with school years:
| Age division | School years |
|---|---|
| Under 8 | Kindergarten to Year 2 |
| Under 10 | Years 3 to 4 |
| Under 12 | Years 5 to 6 |
| Under 14 | Years 7 to 8 |
| Under 16 | Years 9 to 10 |
| Under 18 | Years 11 to 12 |
Some affiliates that work closely with local schools structure their competition by school year rather than age. The framework also notes that national competitions are contested at the Under 18, Under 15 and Under 12 age levels.
