How does my child move up to the next stage?

Each stage has a fixed list of outcomes, and your child must complete all of the outcomes to be awarded that stage.
- The teacher records progress against each outcome during lessons.
- Outcomes must be achieved consistently: teachers check that your child can do the skill more than once, not just once on a good day.
- When every outcome is complete, your child receives the stage badge and certificate and may move to a new class, depending on how the lesson programme is organised.
From Stage 5 onwards, many swims must be "performed to Swim England expected standards", which means the stroke has to be technically correct, not just completed.
